Ron Paul. He looks like a bit player in a b/w movie, set in 1835 in some nice wee American town. Then, the world was a simpler place and the US was still to have it's Civil War. And Ron's quaint small government, cut everything to the bone and bury most of Washington has a rather seductive sound.
Yes, siree! No foreign aid programmes and Israel is definitely not his favourite country. But Ron Paul is really just another Mr Splendid Isolationist in a Multi National, Information Age. He doesn't seem to understand that you can't just pull up draw bridge America, return to out-house toilets and everything will work out swell. Does he score a few points in the minds of Joe Public? Simple, neat approaches to very complex matters always do...but that's not to say that he hasn't some policies that could be applied to trim an overfed, over-meddling dysfunctioning DC.
But...not too many will vote for cold water showers, the scent of horse dung with their stewed morning coffee when the penny finally drops.
