Saudi authorities to try woman for driving - BusinessWeek: 'A Saudi activist will stand trial for defying the kingdom's ban on female drivers, a lawyer and rights advocates said Monday, revealing clear limits on how far the conservative Muslim land is willing to go to grant women greater freedom.'
A Saudi Government spokesman said, "We are so proud of our tolerant Islamic traditions, so our blessed King in his wisdom is giving them an opportunity to join with the rest of our forward looking 14th Century country by allowing them to vote; but just as long as she is voting for the same candidate as her superior owner husband. As to driving an automobile? How can you let a woman behind the wheel of a potentially dangerous vehicle when they'd get all tangled up with the peddles and certainly won't be able to see where they're going given all the crap that we men make them wear?
