Herbert "Herb" Alpert (left) was born March 31, 1935 in Los Angeles, California, into a Jewish family of Russian and Romanian origins. He is an American musician most associated with the group variously known as Herb Alpert & the Tijuana Brass, Herb Alpert's Tijuana Brass, or TJB. He is also a recording industry executive — he is the "A" of A&M Records (a recording label he and business partner Jerry Moss founded and eventually sold to Polygram). Alpert is the only recording artist to "hit" No. 1 on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 pop chart as both an instrumentalist "Rise", 1979 and vocalist and horn player on the Burt Bacharach/Hal David composition "This Guy's in Love With You", 1968. Awards and Honors. Alpert and Moss received a Grammy Trustees Award in 1997 for their lifetime achievements in the recording industry as executives and the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award in 2007. For his contribution to the recording industry, Alpert has a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame at 6929 Hollywood Blvd. Moss also has a star on the Walk of Fame. A report by Britain"s Department for Education and Skills noted that an increasing number of schools are ceasing to teach the Holocaust in history lessons "in order to avoid offending Muslim students".
The report, titled "Teaching Emotive and Controversial History," also observed that many educators are reluctant to teach other topics that may contradict what is being said in local mosques.
Furthermore, the website Family Security Matters reported that, "In an effort to counter "Islamophobia" (a cunning phrase first coined by the Islamofascist Muslim Brotherhood) in British schools, teachers now are required to teach "key Muslim contributions such as Algebra and the number zero" in math and science courses, even though the concept of zero and algebra originated in India!"
In addition, students at the Alsager High School in Cheshire were "punished by their teacher for refusing to pray to Allah as part of their religious education class," according to the website.
The article further noted that non-Muslim children at an elementary school in Scotland were required to visit a mosque in Glasgow, where they were instructed to recite the shahada, the Muslim declaration of faith, which states, "There is no god but Allah and Mohammed is his messenger."
One interesting outcome from this appeasement policy is that, given the stated goal of Islam is Sharia Law for all the world, the next thing on their list after having all women walking around like the stupid tart in the above photo; could be a demand to close all brewers and distilleries as it also "offends" them. Tel Aviv University researchers recently uncovered a seal (see photo below) measuring 15 millimetres (about a half-inch) in diameter, which depicts a human figure next to a lion at the archaeological site of Beth Shemesh, located between the Biblical cities of Zorah and Eshtaol, where Samson was born, flourished, and finally buried, according to the Book of Judges.

The scene engraved on the seal, the time period, and the location of the discovery all point to a probable reference to the story of Samson - who was from the Israelite tribe of Dan - the legendary heroic figure whose adventures famously included a victory in hand-to-paw combat with a lion. The seal was discovered with other finds on the floor of an excavated house, dated by the archaeologists to the 12th century BC. Geographically, politically, and culturally, the legends surrounding Samson are set in this time period, also known as the period of the Judges, prior to the establishment of Kingship in ancient Israel. Prof. Bunimovitz believes that this period of contact and strife with the Canaanites and Philistines may have been the "meat" of the Samson legend incorporated in the Book of Judges, the seventh book of the Hebrew Bible (the Old Testament) that tells the stories of figures who championed the Israelite cause and fought against oppression through this historical period. July's state unemployment numbers came out yesterday morning, and the numbers do not look good for Barack Obama. The report shows unemployment rose in 44 states last month, including 9 out of the 10 key battleground states. Chicago will likely be watching these numbers very closely to see how worried they should be about Obama's chances in the fall. Both campaigns have identified about 8 swing states that they need to win to get to 270. But ultimately, the race will almost certainly come down to just five states that have the potential to determine who wins and who loses:
(1) Ohio: A perennial swing state with 18 electoral college votes, Ohio has about even numbers of Democrats and Republicans, with a huge group of independent voters up for grabs. Obama won Ohio by 5 points in 2008.
(2) Virginia: Demographic shifts have turned this once reliable Republican safety into a toss-up, and Virginia's 13 electoral votes make it one of the biggest swing state prizes of the 2012 election.
(3) Colorado: Like Virginia, demographic changes turned Colorado from red to purple in 2008, when Barack Obama took the state's 9 electoral college votes by nearly 9 points.
(4) Iowa: If the race remains close elsewhere, Iowa's six electoral college votes could be the difference between victory and defeat for the 2012 presidential candidates. Romney and Obama are neck-and-neck in Iowa, and both campaigns are making the state a priority.
(5) Nevada: The Obama campaign is banking on winning Nevada, another once-red state that has been trending blue over the past few election cycles. June Tabor (born 31 December 1947 in Warwick, England) is an English folk singer. Her earliest public performances were in the Fox and Vivian pub in Leamington Spa, England in the mid 1960s. She attended St Hugh's College, Oxford University and appeared on University Challenge in 1968, as captain of the college team. She joined the Heritage Society at Oxford University and sang with a group called Mistral. An appearance at Sidmouth Folk Festival led to folk club bookings and she contributed to various records.
In 1977 Martin Simpson joined her in the recording studio for three albums before he moved to America in 1987. Simpson returned from America to be a guest guitarist on Tabor's albums during the past decade. After his departure, she started working closely with pianist Huw Warren.
Tabor stopped performing professionally for a time after working for decades as a singer, although she made some guest appearances with Fairport Convention during this period. During this time, she worked as a librarian and, with her then-husband David Taylor, ran a restaurant called "Passepartout" in Penrith, Cumbria, England before returning to music professionally in the 1990s to record with The Oyster Band. Solo Work: In 1983 the BBC TV series "Spyship" was broadcast, with Tabor singing the title song. In 1997 she appeared on Ken Russell's "In Search of English Folk Song" broadcast by UK's Channel 4. Tim Winton, author of the 2001 novel "Dirt Music" which was shortlisted for the Booker Prize, made a selection of music to echo the themes of the novel. The CD "Dirt Music" (2001) includes "He Fades Away" by Tabor, a painful tale of the slow death of a miner. (The song originally appeared on her 1994 CD "Against the Streams.") In 2002 the "Passchendale Peace Concert" in Flanders had Tabor sharing the stage with Coope Boyes and Simpson. On 30th June 2006 BBC Radio 3 broadcast "Night Waves" to commemorate the anniversary of the Battle of the Somme. It was broadcast live, with World War I songs sung by Tabor, and a discussion with Michael Morpurgo and Kate Adie.

Simon Peres: A stranger to ever making the right call
President Shimon Peres is under attack for undercutting the elected government's stance on the Iranian threat. Besides stating a position that runs counter to the Prime Minister's in a television interview, he is also reported to have accused Netanyahu and Defense Minister Ehud Barak, in closed conversations, of "terrible irresponsibility" in the Iranian matter. Peres forgets that he made at least three cardinal mistakes regarding state security.
(1) The Oslo Accord that he thought would create a new Middle East and instead led to more than 1,000 Israel deaths from terror attacks that emanated from the territory he gave the Arabs.
(2) His support for the 2005 Gaza "Disengagement," which he thought would lead to peace and resulted in rocket attacks on southern Israel. (3) His worst miscalculation was his objection to the 1981 attack on the Iraqi nuclear plant.
The Israeli Labor Party - mostly honorable and decent folks - have seldom been able to comprehend that those who seek Israel's destruction are NOT like them! Mursi legal adviser reportedly mulling amendments to peace treaty with Israel!
Mohammed Gadallah, the legal adviser to Egyptian President Mohammed Mursi, told the Egyptian media yesterday that Mursi was looking into the possibility of amending the Camp David Accords to expand Egypt’s control over the Sinai. The accords give Egypt full sovereignty and control of the entire peninsula, but Egypt is only allowed to keep a small force in much of the territory, as per the 1979 peace treaty with Israel.
We'll scrap that abomination to ali-baba and do what we like in the Sinai.

Featured Tracks: Don't Look Back: Gloria There is some debate as to the year of Hooker's birth (August 22, 1917 ? – June 21, 2001) in Coahoma County, Mississippi, the youngest of the eleven children of William Hooker (1871–1923) a sharecropper and Baptist preacher and Minnie Ramsey (born 1875, date of death unknown). After his father's death, the next year, his mother married William Moore, a blues singer who provided Hooker with his first introduction to the guitar (and whom John would later credit for his distinctive playing style). John's stepfather was his first outstanding blues influence. William Moore was a local blues guitarist who learned in Shreveport, Louisiana to play a droning, one-chord blues that was strikingly different from the Delta blues of the time. At the age of 15, John Lee Hooker ran away from home, reportedly never seeing his mother or stepfather again.
Throughout the 1930s, Hooker lived in Memphis, Tennessee where he worked on Beale Street. He worked in factories in various cities during World War II, drifting until he found himself in Detroit in 1948 working at Ford Motor Company. He felt right at home near the blues venues and saloons on Hastings Street, the heart of black entertainment on Detroit's east side. In a city noted for its pianists, guitar players were scarce. Performing in Detroit clubs, his popularity grew quickly and, seeking a louder instrument than his crude acoustic guitar, he bought his first electric guitar. Among the atists who have covered his songs are: Buddy Guy, Cream, AC/DC, ZZ Top, Led Zeppelin, Jimi Hendrix, Eric Clapton, Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds, Van Morrison, The Yardbirds, The Animals, The Doors and The White Stripes. Among his many awards, Hooker has a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame and in 1991 he was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Two of his songs, "Boogie Chillen" and "Boom Boom" were included in the list of The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame's 500 Songs that Shaped Rock and Roll. As talk of an imminent Israeli strike on the Iranian nuclear program intensifies, American diplomatic sources have reportedly said that the U.S. will provide logistical support for Israel in the event of such an attack, as well as an "air umbrella" to help cope with possible retaliation. The Israeli daily Maariv reported these developments on Monday, and apparently emphasized the large role played by electoral considerations by both Obama and Romney...and therefore, the US would not take part in any actual action against Iran.

New Jersey Governor Chris Christie held an Iftar dinner at the Governor’s Mansion in late July. He took the opportunity to declare himself a foursquare tool of Jihadists and Islamic supremacists, and even adopted their language in deriding those who have pointed out how he has allowed himself to be compromised by them.
Attending the dinner was the prominent New Jersey Imam Mohammad Qatanani, and Christie was glad to see him. Christie did not mention several salient details about his “friend.” Investigative journalist Daniel Greenfield reports that “despite the fact that Mohammed Qatanani was a member of the Muslim Brotherhood, the organization that is behind both al-Qaedaand Hamas, despite his own guilty plea to being a member of Hamas, and despite the fact that even in the United States, he had defended a charity that provided funds to children of suicide bombers (this is done as an incentive to reassure terrorists that if they die their families will be taken care of), Qatanani was not deported.”(not really too surprising given the Obama administration's Muslim appeasement policy - my italics).
Christie also referred to another friend of his, Sohail Mohammed, whom he appointed to a Superior Court judgeship in Passaic County. Mohammed was Qaranani’s lawyer when he pled guilty to membership in Hamas and the Muslim Brotherhood. Christie has defended Mohammed before, and last year even went out of his way to slam opposition to Sharia in the U.S. as “crap.”
